Did ya hear the one about Colombia? About how, in pursuit of leftist guerrillas who’ve apparently been a pain in the ass for like 40 years, they (oops!) stepped-over the Ecuadorian border? About how, already primed for any sort of conflict with the U.S.-backed Colombian government, Venezuelan president (and all-around way-good-at-agitating-guy) Hugo Chavez started spouting off about war. About how Columbia fired back, alleging that Chavez gave said leftist guerrillas like $300m–a fact that would allow that country and its U.S. allies to declare Venezuela a supporter of terrorism? About how, to further drive home their point, the Colombians claim that their jungle-dwelling rivals were looking to get their hands on a, gasp, dirty bomb. About how, now, all kinds of folks are weighing in on the conflict?
And maybe you thought that the days of Latin American proxy wars were behind us?

Thanks for that. They sorta mentioned all this yesterday (i think) on the BBC World Service podcast and i was like whaaaaaaaaaat? Had no idea what was going on.
It’s always interesting when you’re dealing with a guys who makes his living (in part) off US-bashing. Not that any of them are totally wrong. Anyway, at least “we” acknowledge the fact that he’s shady and kinda crazy, even though he has lots of delicious oil. Unlike a certain other country which “we” are still giving a pass.
